The publicists say early October is the best time to savor New England’s autumn finery. The Good Times Travel Club is going to see how correct they are.

In cooperation with TravelWorld, the club has scheduled a four-day trip to Vermont beginning Oct. 2. The itinerary includes many of southern Vermont’s top visitor attractions.

The complete package, including transportation, lodging, admission to attractions and a number of meals, is priced at $729 per person based on double occupancy. Reservations may be made at TravelWorld offices in Scranton (570-342-5790) or Kingston (570-288-9311). The travel agency is handling all arrangements including booking.

John Madden of TravelWorld said the trip will be limited to the capacity of the Martz Trailways motorcoach which will be used for all travel. It is not necessary to be a member of the Good Times Travel Club to participate.

“At the attractive rates we have been able to secure, I am sure the bus will fill up fast,” Madden said, adding that persons interested in making the trip should make reservations without delay.

The trip will be hosted by Ed and Eleanor Rogers.

Included on the itinerary is a buffet luncheon cruise on Lake Champlain aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen that will provide breathtaking views of the Green Mountains of Vermont and the New York Adirondacks.

The farewell dinner, a tradition with all Good Times trips, will be at the Waybury Inn in Middlebury, an 1810 stagecoach stop made famous in the Bob Newhart TV show.

Another highlight will be a 1.25-mile ride to the top of one of Vermont’s highest peaks on the Killington Ski Area’s K-1 gondola. From there, views of five states and Canada unfold on a clear day.

There will also be visits to the Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream plant, the Vermont Teddy Bear factory and the Norman Rockwell Vermont Museum.

And, there will be plenty of autumn foliage to see as the motorcoach travels from venue to venue throughout the southern part of the Granite State.

If that isn’t enough, on the way back to Northeast Pennsylvania, the group will stop in Saratoga, N.Y., for a visit to the historic racetrack and three hours at the adjoining casino.

In Vermont, home base for three nights will be the recently-renovated Comfort Inn Trolley Square in Rutland.

Amenities include complimentary wireless internet access, satellite television programming, an indoor pool and a spa tub. A complimentary buffet breakfast is served daily from 6:30-9:30 a.m.

On the first day, the motorcoach will leave the Wyoming Valley Mall parking lot at 7 a.m. and the Green Ridge Plaza middle lot in Scranton at 7:30 a.m. Return drop-offs will be at the same locations.

En route to Vermont, an on-your-own luncheon stop will be made at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Clifton Park, N.Y. That evening, there will be an included dinner at the Southside Steakhouse in Rutland, known as “Vermont’s Favorite Steakhouse.”
